Blog Day 10-13 OK Peeps, sorry I have been slack with my blogging. I am not in a black hole but the tiredness is catching up with me. For the first few days I was getting home at 11-12pm and still having enough energy to write a couple of pages – then heading to bed and getting up at 7am and smashing out another fun filled action packed day. Now I’m getting home at the same times but I’m absolutely [...]
Day 6 Well peeps – another cracker of a day. If I was in Melbourne right now with this kind of action I’d be going out of my mind. But here, I know every day is something new – another piece of the puzzle. Today was no different. Man I’m getting sick of riding a bike. My rear is getting used to it, but I reckon my bike tyre pressure is low (had a half-arsed go at pumping them up the [...]
DAY 5 – I’m completely knackered. This is going to be quick. Maybe dot points I think… - 6:30am riding 40 minutes in the pissing rain and wind in the pitch black to HBS to do more clinics - Tired, cranky, cold - Doing lots of private coaching with some talented juniors at the clinic – parents and staff from the coaching company are very happy - Had a nice little chat with the owner of the company who said [...]
Day 4 Wow, fantastic day. Today was the day I was hoping would come in the early part of my trip. Two wonderful things happened. Wonderful thing 1: Niek sorted a little stint for me to coach at a School Hockey Camp for kids aged 7-13 at HBS. I was chatting away to the parents at the start of it and discussing private coaching. Apparently it is ‘very Dutch’ to turn your noose up at people who ‘go to too [...]

A message from Hockey Australia. With the Oceania Olympic Qualifier just completed and the 2012 LondonOlympics now less than a year away, I’m sure you are as excited as we are about what is in store for our two national teams, the Kookaburras and Hockeyroos, in the coming months. The next opportunity to see our teams in action is just a few days away. For those of you who are not aware Hockey Australia has created a unique tournament unlike [...]
I went to bed knackered last night but happy that I will be getting up early at 7:30am to be picked up by Shenna’s dad to head to her game. Alas, 5:00am and I’m wide awake. I don’t think its jet lag. I think it’s just eagerness to see and learn more. The frustrating thing is I know today will be a slow day. The excitement of yesterday wasn’t apparent as I headed to Amstelveen to Myra Hockey Club to [...]
I’m pretty tired and it’s only 9:30pm so I’ll keep this short. Today was a big day for Niek’s Under 18 team. If they win their match they go on to play in a high division for this season, if they lose they play in a lower division which will halt the progress and level of intensity of the group. The whole club is riding on this result and making sure this team is playing in the right grade. Niek and [...]
Day 1 I arrived in Amsterdam at 6:35am on the morning of Friday 14th. The flight is long but I enjoy it. I like the isolation of being ‘nowhere’ and it gives me plenty of time to get excited and prepare for the holiday ahead. Niek and Shenna are at Schiphol airport waiting for me. We hop in Niek’s car and head back to Haarlem, approx 20 minutes from the airport. I’m staying at the home of Niek’s parents. A [...]
