A Sunday game at SHC1, weather forecast wind and rain but about 17 degrees. With Shani and Kate M back this week, Mieke out with concussion, Kate M and Jill DS’s, Amy and Shags in again Flick also in and with Nat as an emergency at the ready, we went out 4th on the ladder taking on 3rd, we knew it was going to be a tough game. The rain held off but the wind picked up and it was [...]
A disappointing 1 nil defeat to Knox at home due to an early and some would say soft Penalty Corner. The team were dealt another blow when their attacking Right Half Nick Haige was taken off after a high speed attack resulted in a collision with a defender, Nick was later diagnosed with a broken collar bone. Saints found it hard to get into the game and suffered to a side who were hungrier for the ball. The second half [...]
A very disappointing 5 -5 draw on a cold mothers day meant a few grumpy faces at the dinner table. Saints went behind very early in the game through a penalty corner which was generously donated by the Saints defence. Saints quickly drew level after a fantastic move up the right wing involving Ross Kingswood won a Short Corner. A well rehearsed routine resulted in one the Morningtion defenders clearing the ball off the line with his foot. Ross took the resulting short and howled like [...]
Mornington at home, forecast rain and cold. The rain held off and the sun came out, with Jill in command and several players down from last week, Amy and Pablo DS ing, Missy back in and Shags in the center. All pumped after prematch huddle we went out all fired up, a great first half scoring off a short corner straight hit from Kate T, followed by another goal about 3 minutes later from Kate and Jill with a ball [...]
Perfect weather for hockey no wind and no sun. Off to Moorabbin to play Southern who are 2nd on the ladder, and we were the underdogs sitting equal 7th with West Vic on 3 points. A shaky start coughing up the ball to easily but settled down quickly, a goal late in the first half from a good ball from Annabel across the face of goal to Dutchy who just tapped it in, the game could have gone either way [...]
A hot day 26 degrees Kew at home, two regular players out and Amy and Liz our DS’s, a very competitive game and lots of opportunities to score but so did they, our defense was strong and Sal kept the ball out, Jill dived to try and get a deflection knick but missed by millimeters. Very disappointing to come away scoreless and our third draw out of 3 games. We have Southern United this week at MBN they are 2nd [...]
The weather had cooled down and the rain had stopped Sunday afternoon Footscray at Footscray. Another rough start but settled down well, with better umpires, Amy and Shags at the ready as our 2 DS’s, a great short corner strike from Mieka was disallowed as too high, was the only ball to make it into either of the nets for the whole match. Jill coming bloodied off the pitch with a body blow to the face and a very sore [...]
Back to our home turf and a lucky escape with a draw. Our team started off with a shaky start and wasted short corner opportunities making the score 1 v 0 down at half time. A positive push after half time paid off with a goal from Kate Thomson and with energy from the boiler room (Jill Collins) we managed to get in front with another goal from Kate but it was followed closely by a goal to Baw Baw [...]
